Throughout winter the weather gets rainy and cold, and so we retreat inside. But not this year! This year at ‘what can we do today’ we’ve come up with 10 amazing activities to do in winter. Some of which are free, these activities are for all the family to enjoy this Christmas.
The 10 fun, family activities to do this winter are:
1. Ice Skating – A great winter activity that kids will enjoy, and an activity to do all together. Help the little ones learn how to skate this winter and have fun teaching them.
2. Paint Balling – Team working sport for kids of 8+ years this is a great way to warm up on those cold winter days. Running around all day and being covered in paint, kids are sure to love this activity. With paint balling centres across the UK you’ll be able to go where ever you are.
3. Winter treasure hunt – Buy or make little presents to hide then place them all around the house and/or garden. This game will keep them entertained for hours depending on how you hide the presents and what clues there given.
4. Nature walks – This is a great time of year for little animals to be coming out, so why not go out for a nature walk and get the kids to write down all the animals and interesting things they see or let them draw them on the way.
5. Gardening – A fair few plants do moderately well in the winter such as pansies, cyclamen and violas. Why not get the children to plant them outside with you to brighten up the garden and also put in bulbs so when spring comes the kids will be surprised by the flowers.
6. Baking cakes – This activity is always popular as kids get to be messy. Making, mixing and baking its a great way to spend your time and you get a treat at the end, so dig out an old recipe book and get cooking.
7. Make festive decorations – Gather all craft materials and earlier Christmas decorations and let the kids do the decorating, creating there own decorations and festive pictures for the house. Then all your left to do is put up their decorations.
8. Build a fort – For this all you will need is lots of pillows and blankets and let the children transform these objects into a play fort. It will keep them busy and entertained creating new fort, dens and houses with simple pillows and blankets.
9. Playing games – Get the kids outside, it may be cold but just wrap up warm. Playing games like tag and hide and seek are a great way for them to get exercise and get them out of the house for a while. Let them invite their friends around so they can all join in and create there own games.
10. Swimming – Most swimming pools will be open for the duration of winter so why not take the kids. You can enjoy a summer activity in the winter at your local leisure centre.
Have a great Christmas with these fun activities and make the most of winter.
